Can't read mapped drive.  Error Message: "The local device name is already in use"
I recently purchased a new desktop for the office and can not get Peachtree's accounting software running. When installing, it will ask for the folder location for the company data saved on the server. When I point to the location, the system just "freezes". I checked the path on the other pcs and they all point to this same folder. I'm at a loss. Jungleboot.

Any issues just browsing to that shared folder in Windows Explorer?Any major differences between this desktop and others, such as the new one being 64-bit perhaps?Updating the NIC drivers is a long shot, but it certainly wouldnt hurt.Does this desktop come with any computer manufacturer software? If so, try removing all of those, some of those applications can definitely cause more harm then they do good.Contact Peachtrees support, there might be a known issue of some kind that relates to your desktop.

What is the Anti-Virus you are using? I have seen some issues were the AV software can stop the peachtree to load. If you have an AV installed just for troubleshooting can you please remove it momentarily and then try to use Peachtree.

I'm currently running Avira. However, i can't even view the contents on the shared folder. Is this some type of security issue?

Please take the AV out of the picture and then try. Also if you stop the services of the Peachtree are you able to access the shares?

If you cant browse the folder even from Windows Explorer, the AV or Peachtree is not the issue. If it was a security permission issue you would be told of such, it wouldnt just hang.NIC drivers are Network Interface Card drivers, you download them from your computer manufacturers website and install them. Do you have any other shared folders that you CAN access from this new desktop? If yes, whats the differences in between those folders, in terms of contents, permissions etc.Can you ping the server from the new desktop? Please disable the Windows Firewall on the desktop.Did you unisntall all the computer manufacturer programs? These programs can really provide some crazy bizare issues in my experience, especially any document handling programs that they include.

The specific error that I receive is: [Restoring Network Connections.. An error occurred while reconnecting X: to \\XXXXXXXXXXX Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. The connection has not been restored.] I can access another folder on the network without issue and browse through the subfolders. The error is just with this specific folder. I don't see any differences between the working and non-working folders in regards to contents, permissions, etc. I'm not sure how to ping the new desktop I'm running Microsoft Essentials. What computer manufacturer programs are you referring to? It is an HP Pavilion desktop...so would the programs be something like HP support programs? I will check to see what loads during startup. Thanks.

Hi, This issue may occur if you access the shared folder by using a different connection type than you use to connect to it. To resolve this issue, please try Clean Boot first. If the issue persists, please remove the existing network mapping. Then create a new network mapping for the share. I am trying to view files on a shared folder but I receive the following error: [Restoring Network Connections] ""\\MM-Server\Company\ Microsoft Windows Network: The local device is already in use. This connection has been restored." I can view this same folder on another computer. I have tried to delete and remap the drive but I can't view on this one machine. This computer is a HP Pavilion P7 AMD QC A6-3600 desktop running windows 7 home premium. All of the other client computers are running Windows XP or Windows 7.

Go to command prompt type net use if you have any network drives listed delete them with net use F: /delete. Go through link to help with the issue as well after the fact. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/c6da707b-5224-40f5-8d0e-e8985453221d/ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297684

Does http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297684 apply to Windows 7 ? Or, is this "Fix It" for older versions?
